School Closing Procedures

The School will post announcements in the following places when the school is closed or is closing:
  • Phone recording at the Wilmington Branch
  • Phone recording at the Milford Branch
  • School website
  • Designated Radio and TV stations (WILM 1450 AM, WDEL 1150 AM, WSTW 93.7, WJBR 99.5 FM, KYW 1060 AM, FOX TV 29, WBOC Channel 16, EAGLE 97.7 FM, COOL 101.3 FM)
It is the responsibility of students, families, faculty and staff to determine if the school is closed by checking for posted announcements.

Faculty

Faculty of the school reside in a wide geographic region. Consequently, individual faculty members may choose at their discretion to cancel their lessons/class/ensemble in the event of weather conditions on a day when the School remains open. This will be considered a teacher absence according to the policy of the school and will need to be made up (see page 4 of the faculty handbook). It is the teacher's responsibility to notify his/her students in the event of cancellation.

Students / Families

A student/family may still decide not to attend a lesson/class/ensemble due to weather conditions on a day when the School remains open. The absence will be treated in keeping with the student attendance policy (see information guide page 29).

Staff

It is the staff member's responsibility to determine if the school is closed or will be closing by checking the phone message, the website or by radio/tv. If the school remains open and you feel you are unable to make it in you must notify your supervisor directly via telephone. In such instances the employee should not rely on email or voicemail and is expected to speak directly with their supervisor.
