Return to Suzuki Academy Overview

Suzuki Academy Requirements

  • Student and parent attendance at a weekly private lesson. Private study day/time is arranged through the Registrar and is subject to instructor availability.

  • Student and parent attendance at a weekly (Wilmington Branch) or biweekly (Milford Branch) group class.  Specific group assignments are determined by each student’s individual development and advancement through the Suzuki literature. Parents are expected to observe group classes.

  • Parent/caregiver participation in the two-hour Suzuki Class for New Parents—Philosophy Overview prior to beginning lessons.  Since the Suzuki method is a cooperative experience and the learning process is shared between the teacher, child and parent/caregiver, it is critical that the parent/caregiver understand the basics of the philosophy. Children should not attend this session.

  • Parent/caregiver attendance at the annual Suzuki Parent Orientation held at the beginning of the academic year.

  • Student participation in the annual Harvest Concert and mandatory dress rehearsal. The Harvest Concert takes place in Wilmington; all Suzuki students from both branches are required to participate.

  • Student participation in the Suzuki Day workshop. Suzuki Day takes place at the Wilmington Branch in lieu of regular private lessons, group classes and Suzuki orchestras for the week prior to the event. All Suzuki students from both branches are required to participate.

  • Student participation in solo recitals as recommended by private teacher.

  • Optional student participation in string orchestras and small ensembles.

  • Recommended prerequisite: The Prelude Program (Wilmington Branch only) or other Early Childhood class.
